The Masonic Fishing Charity (MTSFC) 2018

Spring 2018:

Now into our 12th year, with Buckinghamshire Freemasons running the Masonic Fishing Charity (MTSFC) have just announced plans for 2018.

Buckinghamshire Freemasons participate in The Masonic Fishing Charity (MTSFC) by running fishing events, both coarse and fly, at Buckinghamshire area fisheries. We run a successful season of "Catch The Smile" with thanks to our Masonic and non-Masonic loyal Fly and Coarse casters!  Behind the scenes there is a team of 3 producing the events and 4-6 more who help with H&S, food, signage, fundraising so we can continue to help the Charity ! If you would like to join us as a Coarse or Fly Castor or nominate a school, please contact our Buckinghamshire leader Dave Hollis (details at the end) to discuss joining us!

Here's a very small sample of quotes from carers & headmasters whose children attended past events:

Many thanks to the MTSFC and yourself for providing a fantastic opportunity for our pupils at the Lakeside Trout and Coarse Fishery last Friday.

"All of the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was great to see so many fish being caught, particularly the 14lb carp! As usual the day was extremely well organised from start to finish and we all had a fantastic time."

"I just wanted to say thank you again to you and your team for a fantastic day. The students all enjoyed themselves and I was amazed how well some of them sat still for."

"The girls really had a brilliant day and we all appreciate the effort everyone went to make the day very special. As always, we look forward to the next event."

"The boys retuned to school eager and excited about the whole day. They then obviously passed on their enthusiasm to their parents because the following day I received numerous messages from parents thanking us all for the experience."

Buckinghamshire Freemasons participate in The Masonic Fishing Charity (MTSFC) by running fishing events, both coarse and fly, at Buckinghamshire fisheries. We do this by inviting participants from Buckinghamshire based special needs schools and centres and people who have suffered trauma to come and join in. We provide all food, fishing gear, safety gear, drinks and awards at the end of the day for a comprehensive day out for the participants.

This is far more than just a days fishing though!

It enables mentally disabled people who are Buckinghamshire based to gain in confidence, meet new challenges and achieve tangible results to take away. The Masonic Fishing Charity helps disadvantaged people and those from harsh backgrounds renew their confidence in meeting people and interacting with adults from outside their spheres. It helps physically disabled people (including war heroes and stroke victims) to participate and experience something that may otherwise be unavailable to them and it enables our volunteers to give back to the community and have some fun along the way.

What happens at our events?

Our guests are introduced on a one-to-one basis to their fishing guide for the day who involved them as much as possible with casting, playing and catching the fish. Once everyone in the day's team have recieved the appropriate fishing and safety equipment we head off for a day's fishing!

We break around midday for a leisurly lunch provided free of charge for food, tea, coffee and non-alcoholic drinks. Throughout the day additional drinks and snacks are also available.

As the event draws to a close, we have an awards presentation ceremony where all the participants are presented with their own Fishing Ability Certificate. There are also medals for those who have achieved an outstanding personal triumph - no matter how big or small.

How you can help

There are several very important ways you can help The Masonic Fishing Charity support these events all over Buckinghamshire and the country.

By Volunteering

We have a number of volunteers and not all of them are Anglers! We welcome help in all aspects of The Masonic Fishing Charity from preparation and organising an event through to the many tasks involved in the day itself. You do not need to be a Freemason to be involved. Whether you can spare a day or two yearly for the actual event of perhaps a few hours a month to get involved with the organising and setup of an event, your help would be most welcome. You can register your interest by clicking here and completing the application form.

How you can join in

It is easy to get registered to join as a fly or coarse castor to participate with other Buckinghamshire Masons in The Masonic Fishing Charity events. You can register your interest by clicking here and completing the application form. Alternatively, please contact our Buckinghamshire leader Dave Hollis  on 07801 149 237 to discuss joining us!

The MTSFC and The Masonic Fishing Charity are completely run by Freemasons and Buckinghamshire Freemason volunteers and are a non-profit charity No 1141630.
