The de Bohun Lodge No. 8175 under the United Grand Lodge of England
Welcome to the de Bohun Lodge Web pages on the Bucks Provincial web site.
We celebrated our 50th year of existance in 2017. The same year as the United Grand Lodge of England celebrated 300 years.
The de Bohun Lodge No. 8175 is an active and social Lodge, we meet at the Aylesbury Masonic Hall Ripon Street Aylesbury on the 3rd Monday in May (Installation), the 1st Monday in October, December, February & April each year.
Our oldest member is in his 90's & the youngest is in hisearly thirties. We currently have approx. 30 members, we use Emulation Ritual. (One of approx.54 versions of permitted Masonic Ritual, and is the most common one in Bucks.) We are a friendly and social Lodge, we value our members and visitors alike. Our Lodge of Instruction meets most Friday's; all Mason's are welcome.
Brief Lodge History
The Lodge was Consecrated on June 12th 1967 at the former The Assembly Hall in the Market Square Aylesbury by the then Provincial Grand Master R.W. Bro. Howard G. Potts M.B.E. T.D. The Consecration Dinner was held in the Bulls Head Hotel the site of which, together with the Borough Assembly Rooms now forms part of the Hale Leys Shopping Centre. There were 23 Founders and all but one were Bucks Freemasons.
Having celebrated 50th year we marked this milestone in our Lodges history with much fun with over 70 sitting down to a good meal. All attendees were given a token of appreciation for their support and a copy of the updated Lodge History a copy of which has been deposited in the Library & Museum of Freemasonry in Freemasons Hall London.
Our banner is seen by many as one the best that Mrs Lynda Winter has made; amongst the others of repute are the banners of Vale, Fairway, Marlow Lodges & the Bucks Lodge for Masonic Research. Our banner was dedicated by the then Provincial Grand Master, R. W. Bro. Eric J. Deung Prov.G.M. on December 3rd 1990 who was escorted by W. Bro. Don. G. Varney, who was at the time Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies. The banner was carried into the Lodge in the hands of W. Bro. John Harradine.
Don Varney went on to become the Deputy PGM until we sadly lost him to a terrible illness.
Charity is one of the central "core principles" of Freemasonry. The de Bohun Lodge has for many years supported many calls upon its Charity, be it local, national, small or large. Recently, our Provincial Grand Master (Head of Freemasonry in Buckinghamshire), launched an Appeal for Masonic Charitable Foundation. As a Lodge we support the local hospice, Prebendal Homes, Medical Detection Dogs, Hearing Dogs amongst many others.
It has been a long tradition at the Christmas meeting of the Lodge to meet in Dinner Jackets (rather than Lounge suits) and to sing a collection of Christmas Carols, this was started back in the eraly days of the Lodge by Lawrie Jeffery's and followed up by Nigel Beaven. It has been since the early days one of our most popular meetings attracting the most members and visitors in any one year.
The picture below shows just a few of the members and visitors singing their hearts out.
Freemasonry in the Community
Around 1981 the Lodge decided to support the local Masonic Housing scheme by entertaining the residents to Christmas Carols and Christmas fare such as Mince Pies, Sausage Rolls with various sandwiches all accompanied with wine etc. In the early days the festivities were led by Lawrie Jeffery. This continues to the present with only one break when the ice & snow were so bad that it was impossible to get into or out of the home. The photo shows the Chairman of Prebendal Housing Committee (Left), Geoff Smith, our WM Neil Hubble (2015-16) & the 'Choir Master' Nigel Beaven.
The local Hospice is also well supported by the Lodge, time being one of the key items, members of the Lodge have helped with the Midnight Walk for many a year, it also has members who supply beer for the annual beer festival & plants etc. for the garden.

Where are we now?
The de Bohun Lodge No. 8175 has a high reputation of being a friendly & welcoming Lodge, one that creates the best atmosphere for new & old friends alike. We have a Lodge plan for looking after newer members and supporting Provincial Initiatives like the Bucks North-east Corner Club & Freemasonry in the Community. It is a successful scheme. Many ideas are tailored to suit individuals needs.
Our Lodge holds at least 3 social events each year, a Ladies Festival in the Spring, A Social in the summer and finally one in December. Plus we support the local Prebendal House each year with Christmas Carols just before Christmas each year. The 2017 Summer Social was held at the Chiltern Forest Golf Club during the Summer, some £800-00 was raised for Charity.
