An afternoon of Croquet and a fish and chip supper was arranged for TACTIC (Teenagers Advice Centre-Teenage Information Centre) based in Leighton Buzzard by Buckinghamshire Freemasons.
TACTIC provides a safe and friendly place for teenagers to relax and socialise and offers support to youngsters from 12 to 19 years old.
The first part of the afternoon was taken up by instructions of how to hold the mallet and practising hitting the ball at short and long lengths then putting it through the hoop.
Some had great difficulty in hitting and achieving the length of the ball but by the end of a “proper” game everything came together and they thoroughly enjoyed the game.
They would tell you they thought the game was a doddle but after experiencing it, they realized there is much more to Croquet. The hoops have 1/16” clearance each side, not like the wire hoops as people have experienced in” garden croquet”.
The teenagers 8 girls and 1 boy (brave lad) were accompanied by 1 member of staff and the Croquet Club. The club has 10 members so were able to have a one to one session with each of the youngsters.
Great fun was had by all, and they were a credit to their group, well behaved and not a phone in sight!. They enjoyed the afternoon so much that they have asked to have a return visit.
