Calling all available hands, Bicester Vision & Bicester Chamber are in support of Salute the NHS and need all free hands. Please read the following message:
I wanted to make you aware of a great charity initiative underway in Bicester. The Chair of Bicester Vision, the Chair of Bicester Chamber and myself are currently volunteering time for a project called Salute The NHS. https://www.salutethenhs.org/
The ambition for this charity is to ship 1 million nutritious meals to the NHS frontline over 11 weeks.
In order to achieve this goal, hanger 113 at Bicester Motion has been commissioned from scratch, as a fully functioning pick, pack and shipping facility.
The team of volunteers are comprised of Bicester Garrison soldiers and families, Formula 1 engineers and people of the Cherwell area that are either furloughed, between jobs or able to volunteer a day here and a day there.
Stats at the time of writing:
750 volunteers so far and doubling each week.
20 partner organisations
28,000 meals for vulnerable people and NHS workers have been cooked packed and delivered.
Nearly 2,000hrs of volunteering this week alone.
We are looking for able bodied volunteers that can sign up to the app and then register availability to work in Hanger 113 at Bicester Motion on Skimmingdish Lane. The work is to pack boxes of nutritious meals and get them ready for daily shipping to NHS hospitals.
We are running 7 days per week, each shift lasts approx. 6 hours and lunch is provided. Wear something warm and we advise the use of boots and hi-vis if you have it – all appropriate PPE will be supplied. If you have a forklift license or first aider certification, let the team know when your report in for your induction.
To register, please go to www.spare-hand.org and signup there and follow the instructions.
There is a useful instructional video for registering on the app if you have any issues.
We have a Facebook Group that I recommend you join to get a sense of the scale and activity: https://www.facebook.com/groups/568576030670095/
