Specialized bed for Chemotherapy Department at Northampton General Hospital

The Bucks Masonic Centenary Fund (BMCF) has been very pleased to donate a new specialized couch/bed, costing £1,800, to the Oncology Department at Northampton General Hospital.

Although situated in Northampton, the department treats many patients from the North Bucks and surrounding areas.

Robin Galvin, Secretary of Golden Fleece Lodge 4739, which meets at Wolverton Masonic Centre, has been the driving force behind this donation.  Robin’s wife was a patient at the department and he wanted to repay the excellent treatment she received and the kind and caring way she was looked after during her fight against cancer.

The couch is a multi-functional and practical bed which enables patients to be either laid flat or held upright during examination.  It will be used in a newly converted treatment room and ensures patients are more relaxed and comfortable at an extremely stressful and worrying time.  More than 450 chemotherapy day case patients visit the chemotherapy suite each month.

Community fundraiser for Northamptonshire Health Charitable Fund (NHCF), Alison McCulloch, said: “We are so pleased that Bucks Freemasons are able to donate this bed to us as part of our ongoing improvement of the facilities in the Chemotherapy Suite of the Oncology Department.  We want to make the area far more welcoming for patients, because a positive frame of mind is so important medically.”
