Another of the fine sporting events to celebrate the Tercentenary was held last month.
The Tercentenary London to Brighton Cycle ride from Clapham Common to the RMBI home in Hove took place on Saturday 24th June and was well organised by the Middlesex Province.
There were 76 riders on the start line for the 07.00 start on the 59.7 mile journey taking the classic route through Turners Hill, and up and over the harshly steep Ditchling Beacon before dropping down for the final 10 miles past the Brighton Pier and along the front to the RMBI home.
Team ‘Alfie’ representing Buckinghamshire, was made up of:
Stuart McCurry Team Captain …. Chilterns Lodge, 4634
Alfie Buckland and Mark Dudley, both of Circle of Friendship Lodge No 7320 Middlesex and Addington Chapter in Buckingham.
Stephen Marlow Better known as "Monty". A non-mason from Buckingham
Ian Bamsey Verney Lodge 8849 and Wineslai Lodge 2435
Frank Byrne Verney Lodge 8849
and representing Cestreham Lodge, 6674, Belinda Joyce-Ludlow, and non-mason Mark Atkins.
All eight Bucks representatives finished in times from just under 4 hours to 7 hours.
A special mention must be made of the keenness of Alfie Buckland who did an additional 25 miles due to getting lost, and having to contend with 2 punctures before the finish.
Congratulations to the lady in the team, Belinda, who persevered throughout the u and completed the ride with great encouragement from Mark Atkins who stuck with her all the way.
The BBQ at the end was enjoyed by all.
