The day started with dark clouds and light drizzle but as we assembled the weather brightened up and gradually both teams enjoyed a sunny, warm afternoon.
Denham's President - Brenda Anderson - made us very welcome. Regrettably, due to members dropping out at short notice, our opponents arrived with 11 players while we had 18. By 'lending' Surrey 3 of our players the match consisted of four rinks, being one triple, two rinks and a
4 versus 3.
At the end of a most enjoyable afternoon's play, a very even match ended with a win for Surrey by 3 shots - 76-79. Following a splendid shepherds pie meal, we found that the half-time competition had raised £28 and was won by a Surrey player, the raffle had raised £29 and the auction for one of Margaret Hearn's fine cakes brought in £17.
We had a highest winning rink which was Dot Simmons, Brian Bristow and Alan Brindle. Surrey's highest winning rink included two of the players we had lent to them, so we had a moral victory here too.
A very satisfactory ending to the day.
The attached picture shows Brenda Anderson handing over the green to our President, Alan Brindle who is accompanied by Will Parker, the Surrey President.
